OPERA SCHOLARS AUSTRALIA

Founded in 1998 by opera singers and educators Graeme Wall OAM and Margot Cory-Wall OAM, Opera Scholars Australia is a leading development program for young classical singers who show the potential for a stage career. Based in Melbourne, OSA offers an extensive training program as well as unique and exciting performance opportunities. OSA creates a safe and respectful environment for scholars to grow and develop their craft.

Inside this like-minded community, the scholars are given opportunities to work with leading vocal coaches, movement and acting training, headshot and performance photography, videography, wellbeing education, intensives, vocal competitions and a varied performance program. OSA is committed to training the next generation of classical singers - to help preserve the proud tradition of classical singing in Australia and ensure that the stories of the future are told through the beauty of vocal music.

APPLICATION PROCESS

2027 Opera Scholars Australia Program Application

OSA’s training programs present young singers with the opportunity to learn and develop the skills vital for a career in classical voice. Designed for singers aged 18-26, OSA offers 2 levels of participation.  Please read carefully and reach out with any questions to admin@operascholars.au

OSA SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAM

Designed to enhance your university studies. Participants will receive the following; 

• Weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals/classes 

• Multiple intensive weeks focusing on foundational skills, art song and aria interpretation 

• Performance opportunities in OSA’s Voices Unleashed project 

• Eligibility for OSA’s Art Song and Aria Awards 

• Performance opportunities in OSA concerts and events

• Participation in Elevate Masterclasses and seminars (our industry mentoring program)

• Coaching with program director Alexander Lewis 

• Coaching with guest music/vocal coaches  

• Access to guest masterclasses and Q&A’s  

• Head shot photography 

OSA GRADUATE PROGRAM

A more advanced and involved program designed for those who have completed a university degree and at least 1 year of OSA’s Supplementary Program. Participants will receive everything from the supplementary program as well as the following; 

• Chamber style concert opportunities 

• Opportunities in OSA’s Voices Unleashed incursion program to build facilitation skills

• Opera scenes workshops 

• Role development 

• Small group and individual sessions with our Elevate mentors

• Workshops in self-devised projects 

To apply for either of these programs, please submit the form below by Midnight, Sunday November 29th. Please note that submissions without video files or links will not be considered.

Callback auditions will be held in December at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, dates and times to be advised.

Both programs incur an annual fee: $900.00 Supplementary & $1750.00 Graduate Program

ARIA AWARD COMPETITION

Join us Thursday 29th of October 2026, 7:30pm at Hawthorn Arts Centre for OSA’s Aria Award Final where six finalists will sing two intricate Arias competing for the main prize and further tuition. This is particularly important for those auditioning to see the outcomes and opportunities for artists in our Program.
